It doesn't have the multi-touch capability (though the Android software can support it, but it was apparently "commented out." Some people think it was to play it safe with Apple in case of trademarks...), but other than that it's a very good user experience. The G1 is underpowered and clunky hardware, but the OS still manages to be fun to use and really useful despite the hardware handicaps. There's a few things that are being fixed in the new update that should come soon like software keyboard, stability and speed fixes, etc. The app store needs some work to be more useful and to filter out the noise, but that's the beauty of open source apps - everyone can make something and put it out there.
Speaking more to the Google integration of the phone, I LOVE it. I've got push notifications for my main Gmail account, Google Talk running in the background to send and receive messages, my Google calendar, easy access to Google search from the home screen widget, Google maps with GPS and street view, my phone contacts sync with Google Contacts which is super useful. The Google account integration gives me the hugest tech-nerd boner. I just need better phone hardware and multi-touch and I'd be 100% happy.
